Know how to use radio communication equipment effectively
Describe the effect of regulations affecting the transmitting and receiving of radio communications in both normal and emergency situations
Describe the procedure for confirming that the radio communication equipment is working properly, and what to do if it is not
State the limits of personal authority and responsibility for passing on information
Describe the causes of poor transmission or reception, and what action to take to improve communications
Describe how to report any difficulties in transmitting and receiving information promptly and accurately to the relevant person
State the organisation’s procedure for the use of;
• the phonetic alphabet
• the 24 hour clock
• call signs
• caller identification
• passwords
Be able to use radio communication equipment effectively
Operate radio equipment in line with manufacturers’ instructions and statutory regulations
Respond to incoming communications promptly and appropriately in line with organisation’s procedures
Pass on information to the appropriate people, who are authorised to receive it, within agreed timescales
Use outgoing communication equipment in line with organisation’s procedures and statutory regulations
Confirm the information transmitted is understood by those receiving it
Demonstrate the correct use of the phonetic alphabet
Maintain complete and accurate records of transmitted and received communications
