Learning Outcome - The learner will:Assessment Criterion - The learner can:

Demonstrate musicianship skills and understand personal development in relation to musicianship.

1.1

Employ musicianship skills in the following ways:

a. play a twelve bar melody reading from a recognised system of notation which includes:

i. a regular underlying pulse of 100bpm

ii. diatonic intervals

iii. dotted rhythms (up to dotted eighth notes)

b. interpret a four bar chord progression which includes at least one 7th, 6th or sus chord on a harmony instrument from a chord chart;

c. identify and sustain a regular pulse (clapping/tapping) for four bars of 3/4 & four bars of 6/8, accenting the first beat, over a recorded musical example accurately locating the first beat after a two bar silence in the music in each case;

d. describe musical elements from given examples:

i. minor scale types (natural, melodic, harmonic, pentatonic)

ii. characteristics of any mode of the major scale

iii. time signatures (2/4; 6/8; 12/8; 5/4)

iv. major keys from C through to F sharp and their signatures

e. transcribe and reproduce the following musical elements using standardised notation through listening to musical examples:

i. Four bar rhythm (subdivisions up to 8th notes and dotted eighth notes)

ii. four bar diatonic melody in a major key

iii. two, four bar progressions

f. effectively communicate the elements in e to another musician.
