Learning Outcome - The learner will:		Assessment Criterion - The learner can:
1	Understand the role of policies within a children and/or young people's setting.	1.1	Differentiate between the role of policies and the role of procedures in the work place.
1		1.2	Explain the purpose for the use of policies when working with children and/or young people.
2	Understand the requirements which underpin a policy.	2.1	Explain the relevance to policy development of: legislation (if applicable) how the policy would assist service users and staff how the policy will inform practice any costs which may be involved in implementing the policy any resources needed to implement the policy the need for monitoring policy implementation.
2	Understand the requirements which underpin a policy.	2.2	Explain how policies impact on: service users staff community other stakeholders.
3	Understand how to develop a policy for a real work environment caring for children and/or young people.	3.1	Explain why the following need to be considered when developing a policy: language level aim and rationale what can and cannot be done time constraints any exemptions to the policy person responsible for implementation.
3		3.2	Explain a system for monitoring, evaluating and reviewing a policy.
4	Understand how to implement a policy in a real work environment caring for children and/or young people.	4.1	Discuss the necessity of communicating the use of new/revised policies within the real work environment: to staff to stakeholders to service users.
		4.2	Analyse different approaches to promoting the use of policies within the work role.
		4.3	Explain how to evaluate the implementation of policies within the real work environment.
