Demonstrate how to plan and programme lighting for a specific event and consider its success.

1.1

Evaluate the lighting set up for a commercial music event to include:

a. use of parcans;

b. use of special effects lighting;

c. DMX control and programming;

d. technical specification to include electrical requirements e.g. power consumption, supply 3 phase, single phase supply.

1.2

Identify the health & safety issues with regard to setting up, using and dismantling a lighting rig. To include a discussion on:

a. safe cabling;

b. safe electrics;

c. safe positioning of any stands or stanchions;

d. heat safety flammable materials;

e. an assessment of the potential problems of using specialist lighting where appropriate e.g. strobe lighting, lasers etc.

1.3

Create a lighting programme for a specific event (e.g. band/solo performance, DJ set) of at least twenty minutes meeting the following requirements:

a. production of a technical specification for the rig to include a lighting diagram;

b. lighting is accurately choreographed to the music suiting its style, mood and tempo;

c. operation of a lighting desk using programmed and manually operated elements;

d. creative use of special effects lighting.

1.4

Evaluate the success of the lighting programme created in 1.3 in relation to the specified criteria and assess strengths and areas for development.
