This unit aims to enable learners to develop knowledge of the features of poetry, the ability to interpret poetry and respond to the language in poetry.

1	Be able to interpret the subject matter of a poem.	1.1	Describe what a poem is about.
		1.2	Describe how a poet has presented the subject matter to a reader.
		1.3	Make references to a poem to support interpretation of a poem’s subject matter.
2	Know the features of a poem.	2.1	Describe key features of a poem.
3	Be able to respond to the language used by a poet.	3.1	Identify expressive words used in a poem.
3	Be able to respond to the language used by a poet.	3.2	Describe how a poet uses language to affect a reader.
