Learning Outcome - The learner will:Assessment Criterion - The learner can:

Demonstrate the skills to stage manage a specified music event and evaluate its success, understanding personal strengths and areas for development.

1.1

Clarify personal aims in relation to stage management of a specified music event, implementing strategies relating to the development of a sound, analytical knowledge of the requirements for the role.

1.2

Stage manage the music event specified in 1.1 involving the live performance of at least four different acts which meets the following requirements:

a. creation of a detailed stage management plan for the event;

b. effective management of at least one assistant stage manager;

c. effective liaison with promoter/venue/artists or artists’ representatives/crew/PA and lighting personnel;

d. overseeing enforcement of health & safety policies in relation to (where relevant):

i. electricity

ii. trip hazards

iii. working at height

iv. manual handling

v. smoking

vi. noise exposure

e. effective organisation and management of soundcheck;

f. effective management of backstage and performance areas;

g. effective management of the performance schedule, ensuring each artist runs to a pre-agreed set time;

h. effective management of crew and artists;

i. compering the event, or managing the compere, as required;

j. effective management of any problems which arise which may affect the performance schedule.

1.4

Evaluate the success of the event in 1.2, using feedback from the crew, the artists and their associates and the tutor in relation to their performance in the role of stage manager, and distinguish between strengths and areas requiring further development.
