This unit is subject to the requirements set out in the Assessment Strategy for the sector in which it is being assessed.

The assumed pre-requisite is that the learner undertaking this unit will be an experienced operator in a laundry or dry cleaning environment.

Knowledge will also be required of the following regulations, rules and guidelines:

a. The organisation’s rules, codes, guidelines and standards

b. Equipment operating procedures

c. Machine and equipment capabilities

d. Manufacturer’s instructions

Describe how to check that equipment is safe and ready for use

Explain the necessary routine maintenance of machines

Know how to select the work required

Describe how to select and classify work for repair or alteration

Explain how to interpret care labels and describe fabric construction and the properties of fibres
