Understand the context of work to supervise offenders in the community.

1.1

Identify patterns of offending behaviour and the ways in which the physical, social, psychological and emotional development and functioning of individuals affects associated patterns.

1.2

Identify triggers to an individual’s offending behaviour and factors which contribute to likelihood to offend.

1.3

Identify the specific legislation (national and European) that they have taken into account in their work.

1.4

Apply the principles of equality, diversity and anti-discriminatory practice apply to work supervising and enforcing sentences.

Supervise low to medium risk offenders serving sentences in the community.

2.1

Communicate in a manner which facilitates effective supervision

2.2

Explain the framework of the supervisory relationship consistent with the role and responsibilities of a worker, agency policy and practice standards

2.3

Support individuals under supervision to communicate in ways which support the right to expression without condoning discriminatory, offending or antisocial behaviour

2.4

Assess and monitor risk of re-offending and risk of harm, including that to personal safety

Set realistic and achievable goals for the supervision period

Obtain and share information about individuals under supervision with different workers, supervisors or other agencies following protocols on confidentiality and data protection.

Enforce court orders and statutory licences of low to medium risk offenders.

Explain to individuals the statutory powers for the supervision and enforcement of community sentences

Apply procedures for enforcement including giving warnings and reporting non-compliance

Apply and assess a range of methods and approaches to secure compliance with orders and sentences.

Monitor and review the progress of low to medium risk offenders serving sentences in the community.

Review plans and identify any changes that may be needed to be made to provision

Identify changes in risk; follow protocols for communicating changes in risk assessments

4.3

Evaluate the progress of individuals under supervision as evidence of the effectiveness of the sentence.
