1	Be able to develop and maintain communication with people	1.1	Explain why effective communication is an essential aspect of work in the security sector
		1.2	Identify the barriers to effective communication including: • those relating to personal differences in culture, language, gender, literacy levels, experience, health/illness • environmental • social
		1.3	Communicate with people in a way that: • is open and respectful of them as individuals • is consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating • is appropriate to the context in which the communication is taking place • promotes equality and values diversity • consistent with relevant legislation, policies and procedures
		1.4	Provide opportunities for people to check their understanding of the information given to them and ask questions
		1.5	Describe the appropriate action to take to reduce barriers to effective communication
