Learning Outcome - The learner will:		Assessment Criterion - The learner can:
1	Understand the development and cultural significance of a musical instrument.	1.1	Analyse the role of an instrument commonly used in popular music, making reference to: a. current use of the instrument in popular music, citing prominent players; b. a contemporary song/musical piece which uses the instrument in a prominent way; c. the role of one innovative player who has changed the way the instrument is played or viewed; d. the historical role of the instrument in two contrasting styles of music; e. technological developments in relation to the instrument, citing their effects on the development of popular music; f. the instrument’s cultural and sociological associations reviewing attitudes to it and its users.
1		1.2	From the analysis, draw conclusions to assess the importance of the instrument culturally and historically and in relation to the development/evolution of popular music.
