Be familiar with a range of specialist materials and equipment for stitched surface decoration.

Identify and state the function of a basic range of fabrics, frames, threads, needles, scissors and beads.

1.2

Select and use appropriate materials and equipment for at least three different purposes and fabric types, at least one of which must be a machine technique.

1.3

Prepare materials and equipment for at least three different purposes.

Identify and demonstrate a range of stitched techniques.

2.1

Name and outline the characteristics and structures of at least ten different stitch types, to include hand and machine techniques.

2.2

Reproduce each stitch technique paying attention to weight, scale and tension, in relation to purpose, support fabric and selected threads.

Produce a range of variations on at least five different stitch types.

Design and realise stitched surface decorations.

Develop ideas for a range of stitched surface decoration designs, for different purposes.

Identify how design problems have been resolved in the final piece.
