Structure Requirements
To achieve the NOCN Functional Skills qualification in English at Level 2, candidates must normally achieve the three components of Speaking, Listening and Communication; Reading; and Writing. Reading and Writing will be assessed by means of an externally set and marked task. Speaking, Listening and Communication assessments will be controlled assessments which are internally marked and externally verified. Centres may devise their own Speaking, Listening and Communication assessments in line with the guidance in the mark scheme or may use the NOCN devised assessments. Where a candidate is unable to access components of the assessments using assistive technologies, NOCN will, as a last resort, exempt the candidate from the assessment. However, a candidate must complete some element of assessment and cannot, therefore, be exempt from the entire assessment for the qualifications.
The awarding organisation states that this qualification is appropriate for use in the following age ranges.
